Eurodiaconia is looking to recruit a new Secretary General
Eurodiaconia is a federation of non-governmental organisations, institutions and churches providing social and health services and education based on Christian values. Members� activities facilitate social cohesion and inclusion through diaconal education and the provision of social and health services to young and old, people experiencing marginalisation, exclusion and poverty and situations of abuse.
About Eurodiaconia

Eurodiaconia creates a platform for diaconal actors in 19 European countries, which facilitates translational networking. It also creates a link between the regional, national and European levels, developing ideas and feeding into policies to combat social exclusion, create more just societies and secure dignity for every human being.

In 2008 Eurodiaconia entered a partnership agreement with the European Commission under the PROGRESS programme.
The position as Secretary General
Eurodiaconia is looking for a motivated and skilled individual to manage the general secretariat, continue our network and lobby functions and continue the development of the organisation. The ideal candidate will have experience from a similar position and be able to identify with Eurodiaconia�s vision, mission and values.

The Secretary General is responsible for the overall management of the organisation. This mainly but not exclusively includes
� representing the organisation at Brussels-based events, national events and towards policy makers and civil servants in the European institutions
� development of informed opinions within the network, political positions, position papers and briefings in close collaboration with the desk officers and working groups
� overseeing the running of the working groups in education, theology, social services, social inclusion, communication and volunteering.
� development of events and maintaining public relations to profile the organisation
� development of communications strategies, materials and tools in close cooperation with the relevant desk officer
� strategic planning and management
� staff management and overseeing the implementation of organisational and staff policies
� project management (Eurodiaconia is currently in a 3-year framework agreement with the European Commission)
� ensuring cooperation with European NGOs and other partners
� developing dialogue with members and exchange of expertise among member
organisations through seminars and other events
� development of the organisations vision and mission as well as strategy for growth in close cooperation with the Board
� preparation of the Annual Meeting and Board meetings
� planning and supervising the budget
� in particular the Secretary General is expected the promote the diaconal work of ourmembers

We expect
� a relevant university degree
� experience from working with politically run organisations
� excellent communications and presentation skills
� experience with project management
� experience with strategic planning and management
� excellent interpersonal skills and sensitivity to working in multi-cultural
environments
� knowledge of ecumenical work
� English at negotiations level and knowledge of German and French
� knowledge of the European Union institutions and decision-making processes
� ability to identify with Eurodiaconia�s vision, mission and values

The Secretary General is based in Brussels and oversees the secretariat with 3 desk officers and an office manager.

The Secretary General is on a Belgian contract and remunerated according to the salary scale of the organisation. An individually negotiated benefits package will be available.

A considerable amount of travel within Europe will be required.
