EYCE Press Release: EYCE ExCo Meeting in Klisursky Monastery, Bulgaria
Bullet1 The team at the 2nd Ecumenical Kirchentag The Executive Committee (ExCo) of the Ecumenical Youth Council in Europe (EYCE) met for their scheduled meeting from 24th - 27th of June in Klisursky Monastery, Bulgaria.

This was the second meeting of the ExCo in 2010. In this meeting, EYCE's ExCo also took the opportunity to meet with the Bulgarian Member organisation - Christian Youth Council of Bulgaria (CYCB).

We would like to take the opportunity and thank CYCB for the invitation to host EYCE’s ExCo meeting and warm welcome in Bulgaria!

The ExCo reviewed and evaluated the work that has been done since their last meeting in February, as well as further developed action plans for carrying out the mandates given by the General Meeting, and defining the priorities of each working area of the Council.

In this meeting, the Executive Committee welcomed for the first time the co-opted ExCo member Gunnfríður Katrín Tómasdóttir (Iceland, Lutheran).

The agenda of the ExCo meeting included discussions on the upcoming EYCE summer event to be held in cooperation with the Taurage Lutheran Parish in Lithuania "Facing the Economic Crisis - role and possibilities of youth organisations", 1st-8th of August, Klaipeda, Lithuania. The application deadline for the event has been extended to 1st of July, thus making it still possible to send in delayed applications.

Among other things, the ExCo discussed the preparations for the National Correspondents Meeting, which will take place from 8th-12th October in Belfast, Northern Ireland, as well as preparations for the 38th General Meeting, which is scheduled for 2011 and will be hosted by EYCE’s German Member Organisation - aej.

The Executive Committee also worked on developing the initial programme of the Council for the year 2011, mainly discussing the upcoming "Campaign to Promote Ecological Justice", which will be launched in January 2011, as well as the preliminary planned events for 2011.
The preparations for the events in 2010 have been discussed as well. The following events are on the agenda of EYCE for 2010:

  • August 1rst – 8th: "Facing the Economic Crisis - role and possibilities of youth organisations. A training for ecumenical trainers in the field of economic justice", Klaipeda, Lithuania.

  • September 12th - 18th: "Climate Justice now!" A double study session in cooperation with WSCF-E, Strasbourg, France.

  • November 28th – December 5th: "Fundamentalist or Responsible Citizen? Contributions of religious communities to the formation of European citizens", Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The planned events for the first half of 2011 are:

  • "Campaign to Promote Ecological Justice", launch in January 2011.

  • February 27th – March 6th: "Learn. Engage. Lead. A Step by Step Ecumenical Leadership Training for young Europeans", Geneva, Switzerland.

The meeting also provided time for meeting EYCE's Bulgarian Member organisation – the Christian Youth Council of Bulgaria (CYCB). EYCE's ExCo had the opportunity to introduce themselves to the young people active in CYCB and present the current work of EYCE. Also, CYCB informed the ExCo about their work, history, and priorities for the future. The meeting was very interesting and fruitful, and will bring a closer cooperation between EYCE and the Bulgarian young people in the future. Once again ExCo would like to thank CYCB for the warm welcome!

In addition to meeting the young people from CYCB, the ExCo also had the opportunity to meet one of the founders of CYCB at Klisursky Monastery, Archimandrit Polikarp Petrov. The Archimandrit expressed his happiness about the visit of the ExCo to Bulgaria and invited EYCE to strengthen the cooperation with CYCB and the young people in Bulgaria.
