Supporting EYCE 35 years ago, the Ecumenical Youth Council in Europe, EYCE was founded as an ecumenical experiment – trying to link different ecumenical youth organisations from all across Europe, even in times of the ‵Iron Curtain‶. It was a pretty successful experiment and today EYCE has 31 member organisations from 25 different European countries.
This network provides space for ecumenical encounters, leadership training and spiritual growth. It is active in lobbying youth issues towards the Conference of European Churches (CEC), the World Council of Churches (WCC) and various political organisations in Europe, including the European Commission.
Having experienced fruitful ecumenical encounters within the EYCE network, many young people become active as youth leaders and sometimes even move to key positions of leadership throughout Europe in education, theology, ministry, and administration within their churches and beyond.
In order to continue with this capacity building, EYCE needs your help: | |
The Solidarity Fund One of the major expenses associated with the rising costs of EYCE events are the travel expenses for participants from Central and Eastern European Countries. EYCE has identified clearly the need to involve young people from all parts of a Europe that is growing together. It is therefore a significant and extremely positive development that applications for EYCE activities in 2004 are coming ever more from South Eastern and Eastern Europe, i.e. Albania or Belarus. This development underlines the trend which began already a few years back. EYCE is committed to answer to these changes:
This is why EYCE decided in 2002 to introduce a ‵Solidarity Fund‶. This fund is aimed at providing additional finances to enable more participation in our events of young people coming from countries in Central and Eastern Europe.
EYCE can report that in its first year of existence, the EYCE Solidarity Fund was highly successful. EYCE had hoped to gather 4,000,- EUR into this fund, yet a total of 6,647.65 EUR were donated towards this fund at the end of 2003. This has helped EYCE dramatically to secure participation from Central and Eastern European countries, even in times of limited funding by other institutions.
EYCE wants thank all the many contributors – those who donated small amounts and those who were able to contribute more. EYCE would like to highlight in particular those contributions that were given by the participants in EYCE events themselves – thus showing an extraordinary sign of solidarity.
The successful support of the EYCE Solidarity Fund must not end in 2004. EYCE calls to all member organisations, partners, friends and alumni/ae of EYCE: please continue supporting the EYCE Solidarity Fund also in 2004. Maybe you have particularly creative ideas which you want to share with us, and which could be shared on our website will the entire EYCE network.
The volunteers and interns currently working in the EYCE office have also decided to start a new initiative which is aimed at both supporting the Solidarity Fund and increasing the visibility of EYCE: they have designed a T – Shirt which can be purchased by participants in our activities or other interested people. You can have a look at the models here. We were able to secure a good price for the T – Shirts. In order to cover the costs and by adding 2 Euro per shirt to go directly into the Solidarity Fund, you may purchase the Classic T – Shirt for 8.00 EUR. The ‵Ringer‶ model for men and the ‵Beauty Crew‶ model for women will cost 10.00 EUR. All models are available in different sizes and colours.
The 2 Euro for the Solidarity Fund will only be a small contribution, but all of these combined small initiatives together will make a difference, enabling EYCE to work more closely and with even more financial autonomy with youth from all of Europe. Special thanks should be expressed towards the office crew who invented and designed these T – Shirts.
EYCE hopes strongly that this initiative - and hopefully many more ideas of the entire EYCE network - will provide for another successful year of the EYCE Solidarity Fund.
