EYCE Press Release: EYCE ExCo meets in Helsinki, Finland

The Executive Committee (ExCo) of the Ecumenical Youth Council in Europe (EYCE) met for their scheduled meeting from 16th to 20th of June 2011 in Helsinki, Finland. The ExCo also took the opportunity to meet with the representatives of EYCE’s Finnish Member Organisation SEN Youth and representatives of the Finnish Ecumenical Council in an ecumenical evening organized by SEN Youth. In addition, the ExCo met the General Secretary of the Finnish Ecumenical Council Rev. Heikki Huttunen in order to discuss the ecumenical situation in Finland and in Europe. Of great interest was also the visit of an Orthodox Youth Camp during which EYCE and its work was presented. Continue reading

CALL FOR ARTICLES

Part of the EYCE newly launched Campaign to Promote Ecological Justice will be various awareness raising materials, an on-line magazine among them.

The magazine will be issued twice per year. Therefore the Campaign Coordination Team (CCT) is looking for people, who would like to offer their writing skills and enthusiasm. CCT is looking for articles, interviews, debates, reflections, etc. You can also contribute with expertise on a particular subject or analysis of certain region of Europe with regards to ecological justice.

To make it easier for the editors to coordinate the articles, the CCT would like to ask you, to send a summary of your article first. Continue reading

EYCE is looking for a volunteer

In partnership with YMCA France, EYCE has the possibility to offer a volunteer placement in the EYCE office from 1st of June to 30th of April 2011. Since this is a specific project EYCE is looking for a volunteer, who is a French resident.

Easter Greeting from the EYCE Executive Committee

Dear Friends, Greetings from EYCE and the Executive Committee! We hope this Easter Greeting finds you well, as we just entered Holy Week, waiting to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Behind us are the weeks of Lent that we have experienced as a time of reflection and contemplation on the Scriptures.

Let me take you to a story that happened many years ago and that you might be familiar with. It is the story of the disciples at Emmaus who meet Jesus after his resurrection. Jesus joins them on their way to Emmaus and they tell him what has happened in Jerusalem three days before. During this time they do not recognise Jesus, as the one who is walking with them. The disciples are deeply troubled by the death of Jesus, because they had hoped he would be the one to redeem Israel. However, in this difficult time, they are not breaking apart from each other, but remain together and share their worries with each other. Continue reading

UPCOMING EYCE EVENT: “Taking Steps Towards Ecologically Responsible Society. Political and theological perspectives on Ecological Justice”

The training course “Taking Steps Towards Ecologically Responsible Society” will be the first thematic event of EYCE’S Campaign to Promote Ecological Justice and will focus on its political and theological aspects. With this training course EYCE seeks to increase the understanding of global ecological justice issues and enhance ecological responsibility among various actors in society through active contribution of young people.

It will take place from the 3rd – 10th of July 2011 in Kiev, Ukraine.

Christians and churches encouraged to continue working on common date for Easter

The general secretary of the World Council of Churches, the Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, has urged Christians to give this year’s celebration of Easter a clear ecumenical profile and to work for a common date of Easter for the future, noting that this year it falls on the same day 24 April for both eastern and western traditions.

EYCE’s Campaign to Promote Ecological Justice officially launched

On Monday, 28th March 2011 the official launch of EYCE’s Campaign to Promote Ecological Justice took place in the Maison du Protestantisme, where EYCE’s office is located. The Campaign Coordination Team presented the concept of the Campaign and its various elements and warmly welcomed friends of EYCE and guests from EYCE’s partner organisations.

Training for future Ecumenical Leaders takes place in Switzerland

From 27th February to 6th March 2011 more than twenty young people from various denominational and national backgrounds gathered in Kandersteg and Geneva, Switzerland for an EYCE training course “Learn. Engage. Lead. A Step by Step Ecumenical Leadership Training for Young Europeans”. The participants got the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of the Ecumenical movement and to broaden their leadership skills and share the experiences on successful leadership from various countries. The training course was organized by the Ecumenical Youth Council in Europe (EYCE) in cooperation with the Youth Desk of the World Council of Churches (WCC).

EYCE ExCo meets in Brussels, Belgium

The Executive Committee (ExCo) of the Ecumenical Youth Council in Europe (EYCE) met for their scheduled meeting from 3rd to 6th of February 2011 in EYCE’s Office in Brussels, Belgium. The ExCo also took the opportunity to meet with the representatives of EYCE’s Belgian Member Organisation Service Protestant de la Jeunesse (SPJ), who share the office building at Maison Protestantisme, in order to discuss various ways of future cooperation.

The ExCo reviewed and evaluated the work that has been done since their last meeting in October 2010 in Belfast, as well as started initial preparations for EYCE’s 38th General Meeting. Continue reading

Youth from various faith communities in Europe discuss active and responsible citizenship

“Our aim was to propose ways, in which young religious European citizens can take a more active role in fulfilling their duties towards society as a whole”, declare the participants of the conference “Fundamentalist of Responsible Citizen? Contribution of religious communities to formation of European citizens” in their final statement.

The conference was held from 28th November to 5th December 2010 in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina and brought together more than 50 young Europeans from various religious backgrounds. The event was organized by the Ecumenical Youth Council in Europe (EYCE) in cooperation with the Forum of European Muslim Youth and Student Organisations (FEMYSO) and the Interreligious Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina (IRC). This conference marked the final step of the three-year Campaign to Overcome Fundamentalism. This project aimed at addressing various aspects of religious fundamentalism and raising awareness of this phenomenon. At the same time, it promoted the necessity for inter-religious dialogue. The participants for this conference came from various Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities, as this was also the case in the other activities of the Campaign. Continue reading
