Starting in May 2017, EYCE is looking to hire a

General Secretary

for our office based in Brussels (Belgium).

The Ecumenical Youth Council in Europe (EYCE) is an umbrella organisation of Christian youth organisations around Europe and unites young people from protestant, anglican, orthodox and catholic traditions. The areas of commitment are the empowerment of young leaders, interdenominational and interreligious dialogue and youth politics. Thematic wise the work of EYCE is focused on fields such as ecumenism, peace and reconciliation, role of churches in a modern society, economic justice, ecology, youth and human rights.

Role and Responsibilities of the General Secretary

  • Overall coordination of the operation of the office and the organisation;
  • Development of projects and programme together with Executive Committee;
  • Fundraising and financial administration, including grant application writing and reporting, budgeting, executing and booking the payments, monitoring the financial situation and carrying out financial reporting for projects;
  • Supervision and mentoring of up to two office volunteers;
  • Internal communication with member organisations and partners, including visits and official representations;
  • External communication, including webpage management and social media updates and marketing.

Profile and Experience

  • Commitment to EYCE’s values;
  • Education to a degree level or extensive experience in a relevant field;
  • Good organisational and administrative skills and experience on above mentioned areas of work;
  • Good knowledge about church structures and ecumenical movement;
  • Negotiation and networking skills and ability to represent the organisation;
  • Ability to communicate and work with young people from various cultural, social, denominational and religious backgrounds;
  • Ability and willingness to work on one’s own initiative and independently;
  • Teamwork skills and experience in working with volunteers;
  • Language skills: Excellent English skills (both oral and written) are essential as it’s the official language of EYCE. Knowledge of French or Dutch to communicate with Belgian authorities is an asset.;
  • Computer literacy: Standard office applications, webpage management (WordPress). Social-media marketing and basic software maintenance is an asset;
  • Knowledge about the European Institutions (EU and Council of Europe) is an asset;
  • Ability and willingness to travel and to work flexible hours;
  • Ability to work in Brussels, Belgium.

Terms and conditions

  • Location: EYCE office in Brussels, Belgium. Requires also traveling within Europe up to 50 days/year.
  • Work time: 38 hours per week. Sometimes requires work during evening hours and weekends with adequate compensation.
  • Annual leave: 20 working days of holidays (4 weeks) per year. The period between Christmas and New Year is added to annual leave as the EYCE office is closed during this time.
  • Duration: 2 year’s initial contract with possible extension up to 6 years
  • Start date: 1st of May 2017 or depending on individual agreement later
  • Salary: 2300 to 2800 EUR (gross monthly salary) depending on candidate’s experience.
